Scream And Run Keys: All 5 Key Colors & How Spawns Work
All five Scream And Run keys — White, Yellow, Green, Pink and Red — where they hide (backpacks, never lockers), why there is no gold key, and how to get them to the exit alive.
There are exactly five keys in Scream And Run — White, Yellow, Green, Pink and Red — and all five are required before the exit will open in a standard Escape round. Keys never spawn in the open or in lockers: they hide inside backpacks scattered around the school, and their placement is re-rolled every single round, so there is no fixed key map to memorize. This page covers every color, how spawning actually works, and the delivery mistake that loses most players their run. Roblox API · 2026-09-11

The Five Keys
Every color fits one of five padlocks on the exit door — "five locks, one door" — and a key is consumed by walking it to its matching lock. Each key page below the table confirms one thing already: no color has a home room. Roblox API · 2026-09-11
| Key | Where it hides | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| White Key | Inside backpacks only — never in lockers | Unlocks the white padlock on the exit door |
| Yellow Key | Inside backpacks only — it is yellow, not gold | Unlocks the yellow padlock on the exit door |
| Green Key | Inside backpacks only — never in lockers | Unlocks the green padlock on the exit door |
| Pink Key | Inside backpacks only — never in lockers | Unlocks the pink padlock on the exit door |
| Red Key | Inside backpacks only — never in lockers | Unlocks the red padlock on the exit door |
There Is No Gold Key
Some guide sites list the key colors as "green, red, gold, pink, white". That is wrong. When players transcribed 27 gameplay recordings across eight different channels, every single one said yellow key — the phrase "gold key" appeared zero times. If you are hunting a gold key, you are hunting a color that does not exist, and the yellow key in your backpack slot is probably the one you are missing. Seen in footage · 2026-09-11
Where Keys Spawn: Backpacks, Not Lockers
The spawn system has been checked against the game itself and multiple community sources, and it is stricter than most players assume:
- Keys only appear inside backpacks (book bags). Lockers are closed scenery — you cannot open them, and they never contain keys. Roblox API · 2026-09-11
- Placement re-rolls every round. There is no fixed "White spawns here" chart, and any guide claiming a specific room produces a specific color is describing a coincidence from one round. Roblox API · 2026-09-11
- Eight rooms are worth searching: Classroom, Cafeteria, Library, Gymnasium, Bathroom, Kitchen, Office and Auditorium. Everything else is hiding ground or dead space. Roblox API · 2026-09-11
- Most rooms hold two backpacks. The exact backpack count per room: (exact backpack count per room: to be verified) — sources agree on the "most rooms have two" pattern but not per-room numbers. Community report · 2026-09-11
- Every backpack can be searched once per round, by everyone. Once a bag is opened it stops glowing and goes dark, so you can see at a glance which containers are already cleared — including by other players before you got there. Roblox API · 2026-09-11
- Empty streaks are normal. Opening six to eight empty backpacks in a row is the designed base rate, not bad luck. Do not change strategy because of a dry spell. Community report · 2026-09-11
Carrying, Dying and Dropping Keys
You carry a key in hand the moment you find it — there is no inventory to store it in. If you die holding a key, it does not vanish: it drops where you fell, and any player can pick it up. This is why full servers escape more often than solo players — fifty people searching and dying still moves the key total forward. Roblox API · 2026-09-11
The Mines Do Not Use Keys
The second chapter, added on September 3, 2026, removed keys entirely. A Mines round runs a production chain instead: grab a pickaxe, mine coal, feed the furnace, then plant six dynamite with a lighter to blow the exit wall. Guides that tell you to find five keys in the Mines copied their School walkthrough and never checked the second map. The full route is in the Mines walkthrough. Roblox API · 2026-09-11
Delivery: The Step That Ends Runs
Across recorded runs, players lose keys the same way over and over: they find a key, keep searching instead of delivering it, and get caught halfway. The fix is mechanical:
- Pick up a key, walk it straight to its matching padlock. Roblox API · 2026-09-11
- Unlocking takes real time — have a teammate watch the hallway while the lock turns. Roblox API · 2026-09-11
- Never start opening a lock while the Cat is near; wait for him to walk into the next room. Roblox API · 2026-09-11
