Scream And Run Controls: Every Keybind From the Official List

Every confirmed Scream And Run control — Shift to sprint, C to crouch and crawl, Shift plus C to slide, F for the flashlight — plus why crouching will not save you and what the E key actually does.

Last verified: 2026-09-11Priority: P1Source-tagged facts below

Scream And Run uses four working controls on PC: Shift to sprint, C to crouch and crawl (the same key, held down), Shift plus C to slide, and F for the flashlight. This layout comes from the game's official control description, cross-checked against multiple community guides — and it comes with two hard rules most players learn the painful way: crouching is for hiding, not escaping, and sprinting plus sliding is one combined move, not two options. The Confirmed Keybinds

KeyActionWhen to use it
ShiftRun / SprintThe only way to open distance once the Cat sees you — and the way to cross exposed hallways fast
C (hold)Crouch / CrawlStaying out of sight and approaching containers quietly. You cannot sprint while crouched
Shift + CSlideThe chase-breaker: dive into a side room or cut a corner to break line of sight
FFlashlightFinding keys and doors in the dark school — mandatory in No Power mode, but the beam can expose you
Mouse / view toggleFirst or third personThird person shows the hallway behind you — worth the screen cost
EHold Breath (unverified)Appears only on official Mines promo art, not in the official key list — do not rely on it

The four main bindings (Shift, C, Shift+C, F) are confirmed by the game's official description and echoed by three independent guide sites; the "E — hold breath" entry is the one outlier. Roblox API · 2026-09-11

The E Key Is Not Confirmed

Promotional art for the Mines chapter shows an "E — HOLD BREATH" prompt, which has fueled speculation about a stamina or breath-holding mechanic. It appears nowhere else: not in the official key list, not in 27 transcribed gameplay recordings. The current best read is that it is artwork ahead of the current build — treat the E key as non-functional until it ships: (whether E hold-breath works in the live game: to be verified). How Each Move Is Actually Used

The table gives the mapping; the tactical layer below is where players separate a clean escape from a cornered death. Inferred · 2026-09-11

  • Sprint (Shift) is the escape half. In a straight line the Cat is faster than you, so sprinting is not for winning a race — it is for reaching the next corner, doorway or slide. Sprint down long hallways without a plan and you will meet him coming back around the loop. Roblox API · 2026-09-11
  • Crouch-crawl (C) is concealment, not escape. Use it to stay unseen and to approach backpacks quietly — but once the Cat is chasing you, crouching is how you die: you cannot run while crouched, and new players get caught frozen in it constantly. Crouch before he sees you; never after. Roblox API · 2026-09-11
  • Slide (Shift plus C) is the chase interrupter. Community guides phrase it exactly: sprint and slide are one combination, not two options — "the only way we can outrun the killer is if we sprint and slide". The slide breaks his line of sight around a corner — and footage also confirms the slide carries its own burst of speed, so chaining sprint into slide is faster than sprinting alone. It is not a standing move either: recordings show you need a sprint head start to build momentum before it fires — "you got to run and hit C". Practice it until it fires without thinking. • Flashlight (F) is a searchlight and a liability. You need it to find keys, doors and floor items, and it is mandatory when No Power blanks the school to black. But the Cat can see your light, and the beam cone points where your camera looks — not where the monster is — so flick it on to check, off to move. Roblox API · 2026-09-11

A Sprint Stamina Bar Exists — and It Runs Out Fast

Sprint stamina is real: first-playthrough footage catches the bar mid-round — "Do I have a sprint stamina, by the way? Oh, I do. Oh my god. Wait, why is it so low? Wait, my stamina is so low." Seen in footage · 2026-09-11 Sprinting is therefore a resource, not an infinite speed boost — spend it to cross exposed hallways and open distance, then let it refill while you walk. This is separate from the "E — hold breath" gauge above, which remains unverified.

Mobile and Console

Scream And Run is played on Roblox, so touch devices use on-screen controls instead of these keybinds. The exact mobile button layout — and whether every PC move like the slide is available on touch — is still being verified: (mobile button layout and slide availability on touch: to be verified). Drill It Before You Need It

Ten minutes in Free Roam beats dying in a real round while hunting for the right key — practice sprint-to-slide until the combination is reflex, because in a chase you will not have time to think. Then see where each move earns its keep: the hiding spots hub ranks the rooms you are diving into, the Cat in the Hat guide explains the hunter you are dodging, and the beginner guide chains it all into a full first round.
