Scream And Run Thomas (Dark Thomas) — Mines Monster Guide
Thomas is the hunter of the Scream And Run Mines chapter — a spider-legged train engine that walks through walls but never teleports. Plus the truth about the Dark Thomas nickname.
Thomas is the hunter of the Scream And Run Mines chapter — the monster you hear long before you see him, and the reason the second chapter's rails are not scenery. He replaced the Cat in the Hat when the Mines launched on September 3, 2026, and he hunts differently: bigger, louder, patient — and, uniquely among the game's monsters, he never teleports. What Thomas Is
Thomas is a Thomas the Tank Engine on spider legs — a body scaled far beyond any player, capable of folding back into train form and rolling the tracks. He arrived with the Mines chapter itself, anchored by the "2x Chance To Play As Thomas" gamepass and the You Escaped Mines badge, both created the same day. His hunting ground covers both Mines areas, the only multi-area chapter in the game. Community report · 2026-09-11
"Dark Thomas" Is a Nickname, Not an Official Name
The official name is Thomas — sometimes Thomas the Train. "Dark Thomas" appears nowhere in the game's own materials: not in the official monster data, the map listings, the update logs, or the game's homepage text. Some guide sites print Dark Thomas as if it were the official name of the Mines monster; every such claim is fan vocabulary. Use Thomas in bug reports, searches and guides until the developer themselves uses the word — nothing official currently does. Community report · 2026-09-11
How Thomas Hunts
- He walks through walls. Like the Cat, thin geometry and line-of-sight blockers do not stop him — walls delay, they never protect. Community report · 2026-09-11
- He never teleports. This is the single biggest mechanical difference from the Cat, and it is what makes Thomas learnable. One squad's reaction — "What the hell? He spawned on top of us." — reads as spawn-point and pathing proximity rather than a teleport mechanic; tracked footage overall shows no teleporting at all. Expect to always know roughly where he is. Seen in footage · 2026-09-11
- His music carries far. His audio warning range is long — you can hear his music from much farther away than the Cat's laugh, track him across the map, and plan your mining around his position instead of guessing. Roblox API · 2026-09-11
- He travels the rails. Footage shows Thomas rolling down the tracks and turning with them — the rails threading the chapter are his patrol network, so staying off them is the Mines equivalent of staying out of School hallways. Seen in footage · 2026-09-11
- His size is a weakness. Low crevices stop him cold — "they put these little crevices that he can't he can't wheel under." Those crawl gaps are the closest thing the Mines has to a safe spot. Seen in footage · 2026-09-11
Thomas vs the Cat in the Hat
| Trait | The Cat (School) | Thomas (Mines) |
|---|---|---|
| Teleporting | Teleports on top of players | Never teleports |
| Walls | Walks through walls | Also passes through walls |
| Audio warning | Short — the laugh is the only cue | Long — his music is audible from far away |
| Size | Player-scale | Far larger than a player |
| Movement | Fixed room patrol loop | Rolls the rails through both areas |
| Community verdict | The harder hunter | Easier — bigger, audible from farther, no teleporting |
The community line that sums it up: Thomas is "way bigger, hear his music from way farther, and he doesn't teleport on top of you." The Cat's full behavior breakdown — including the teleport — is in the Cat in the Hat guide. Community report · 2026-09-11
How to Play as Thomas
Two routes put you in the monster's seat. In Hide And Seek, the "2x Chance To Play As Thomas" gamepass doubles the chance the round selects you as the hunter. In Free Roam, the VIP pass unlocks a spawn command — :spawn Thomas — that brings him in once per server for a 90-second stay. Community report · 2026-09-11
How to Survive Him
The consensus is that Thomas is considerably easier to deal with than the Cat, and the counterplay follows from his profile: track his music instead of listening for a close-range laugh, do your dynamite chain between his laps, stay off the rails, and treat the low crevices as emergency shelter when he closes in. The full chapter route he is hunting you through is in the Mines guide. Community report · 2026-09-11
